Dear Gestures team

Important decisions from today's meeting:

  1. The idea is a "quiz engine" which takes gestures as answers, camera to detect.
    1. Ideally something like, "raise hand if .., move to the left if.., etc.) Failing that one could raise a number card.
    2. Ideally off-line
  2. Can think of three hardware platforms.
    1. Windows laptop, conv. web cam.
Some know-how including an image recognition - high chance of finishing it timely
    2. Linux laptop, conv. web cam
Medium delay due to changing in to Linux. If anybody has interest, you are welcome to follow up.
    3. Raspberry Pi, conv. web cam or even special R Pi tiny camera
Probably the longest delay because Pi (ARM platform) is something completely different. So less chances of finishing in time, still worth following due to the learning effect, if there's an interested sub-group.
  3.  Plan
    1. To start with 2.1 only a web cam is needed. Navoda checks with the Dept. tells me the result, If not successful let me know ASAP. I have alternatives
    2. For 2.2: EduNET has a collection of used laptops, some are fairly new. You can reinstall the Linux you want, Windows is discouraged (and maybe also not possible). Check with Mr Asoka of the CC.
    3. For 2.3: EduNET has some Raspberrys: From memory a Pi 4 4G, Pi 400 (desktop) and 3x R Pi 3. You can divide them yourselves depending on the demand (Off-line LMS group).
I don't know whether a normal web cam is possible or suitable. There are great tiny cameras for R Pi. Please to a product survey, e.g. on Daraz.

Due to the short time available, don't wait for meetings. Just post your needs, progress or any updates here in the forum.

Dear Navoda, dear all

Yes, I am informed that the two teams have started with a Raspberry Pi each. If I remember correctly, each should have a SD card. Hope, you can make a start with them. If you have a second team member who would try out in parallel, we should have more boards. Only thing we have only two Pi 4 compatible (Pi 400) devices. So each team getting one of them and a Pi 3B will be fair. (Dear Asoka, you might have to give a deadline to the student, who borrowed the Pi 4.)

About the cam: The 19th is not far away. I am already in contact with Mr Asoka to find alternatives in case the answer is negative.

P.S. About the structure of the course: Everybody is a "Teacher" in this course, so can see everything and change everything. I want it that way, to have a flat hierarchy. That is the most efficient structure, given that the participants are mature, university students are mature enough! wink

Dear all

I believe, the two teams are working on their own. If you need anything pl. post here, Navoda and Nirod on behalf of the resp. teams. I noticed that the other students don't engage in this Moodle course, so I switched their role from Teacher to Student.

I was told that the Pi 4B 4G I was talking about has arrived. So it is free for any team which needs it. It has a cheap case without cooling, neither active nor passive. I have send a quality case with active cooling - should arrive towards the end of the next week. The same packet has the following things: Raspberry Pi PoE + HAT, 2.8" Touch screen for R Pi and a Camera Module V2 for R Pi. When they arrive, Mr Asoka will announce here.
