WEIGHT LIFTING

Yesterday's International

THE third International Weight-lifting Contest, between India and Ceylon was held yesterday at the Zahira College hall, and India won easily by 3 matches to 0.

Ceylon, though beaten, certainly put up a good show, and D. M. Dissanayake was the best performer. His total of 500 lbs. was only 35 lbs. less than that of his Indian opponent, Shroff.

Outstanding amongst the whole lot was D. P. Mony, of Madras, who is the Olympic Champion. He easily outclassed Packeer Ali and his total lift of 585 lbs. was the best in the whole meet.

The lifting events were interspersed with a number of Variety items which included several songs by Sunil Santi and also some classical Oriental Dances.

A most extraordinary spectacle was the superb Hand to Hand balancing feat of Charles T. Perera (the Fire Chief) and Lennie Schoorman. They displayed perfect understanding and went through the whole act with the utmost calm and nonchalence.
