CEYLON TO MEET INDIA FOR
THIRD TIME

Today's Weight-Lifting Test between Ceylon and India (he third in the series will begin at the YMBA. at 6 o'clock. It has aroused considerable interest for since the arrival of the tourists it has been realised that Ceylon will have to go all put to defeat the splendid specimens of manhood who have come out on behalf of India.

There will actually be three contests for, though J. D Telang, the Middle- Weight title-holder, has come out it was found that Ceylon has not a man of his weight to oppose him. He will, however, give an exhibition performance.

Ceylon will be represented by T. S J. Packeer All in the Feather-Weight class, his opponent being Mani of Madras who holds the holds she Indian title and has to his credit three Indian records-2 hands press, 2 hands snatch and clean
and jerk

D. M. Dissanayake will be Ceylon's representative in the Light-Weight, his opponent being H. M. Shroff of Bom- hay, holder of the Indian title.

Ninnian (bantam) is the fourth member of the team but as International rules do not include bantams in championships, an arrangement was made whereby R. C. Thadam of the Kandy Y.M.C.A. will oppose Ninnian

Besides the weight-lifting contest, several variety items will be staged.


KEEN CONTEST EXPECTED

The Indo-Ceylon Weight-Lifting Contest is held once every two years. This year the third contest in the series has been fixed for 6 p.m. today at the Zahira College Hall under the patronage of Mr. Kurban Adamaly, Deputy Mayor of Colombo.

Mr. David Abraham, Manager of the Indian team, and Mr. Gaffoor, Assistant Manager, are both of opinion that the members of their team are perfectly fit and will give a good account of themselves. While the same cannot be said of the fitness of the
Ceylon team, this too could be expected to do their best.

Prospects of a keen contest are in store for those who go to watch the events, interspersed with variety items by Sunil Shanti. Sangeetha Visharad,in song, who will be well worth going a long way to hear, while another powerful attraction should be the amazing and perfect hand to hand balaning of Charles T. Perera. Colombo's New Fire-Chief, and Lennie Schhoorman, apart from an Oriental Dance by young Dhanapala.

The Mayor of Colombo, Mr. R. A. de Mel in a communication addressed So Mr. A. Mylvaganam, regretted his inability to have been present to welcome the Indian Team on arrival at Fort Station last Tuesday and expressed the hope of enjoying the pleasure of their company at the Meet. He also wished the Indian visitors a happy time in Ceylon.

On Tuesday, the day of their arrival In Colombo, they were the guests at dinner of Paris Hotel and of Pilawoos Hotel on Wednesday night. Last noon the Persian Hotel, had invited them for lunch and they were the guests of Mr. Justin Kotelawela at tea. On Saturday noon they will leave on a bour of Ceylon, beginning with Kandy and ending up with the ruined cities returning to Colombo for dinner on Monday night. On Tuesday night they will entrain for India thus concluding a woek's stay in the Island.
