MELA, the Ceylon University's Society of Oriental Arts has again revived its activities after a lapse of about five years. The programme for the year includes classes in Oriental music, and dancing, a public song and dance recital, and an exhibition of paintings by members of the University.
Two singing classes in Sinhalese and Hindustani music and a dancing class for girls are being conducted by the well-known artistes, Sangeeth Visharad Sunel Santi, Mr. Ananda Samarakoone and Sri Prema Kumar respectively. These classes are already crowded and great enthusiasm, is said to prevail among the students of the University in the study of Oriental Music and dancing.
For the song and dance recital to be produced by the President of the Mela, Mr. Demosthenes Jayewardene, many of the leading Ceylon artistes have given their promise to contribute items.
